The Honors Program in Latin American Studies is open to majors in any field. It is particularly suited to students who wish to go on to graduate school or pursue employment in an institution emphasizing research and independent work. Students must complete 35 units in courses certified for honors by CLAS. Requirements for Honors include a senior research thesis (undertaken with the guidance of a faculty advisor) and proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese. Applicants must apply for Honors certification during spring quarter of their junior year, and must maintain a B+ (3.3) GPA or higher in courses taken to satisfy requirements for the certificate.
